Unity (in Calamity) is (a greater) Strength
One of the world's oldest civilisations, the land of a beautiful melange of beliefs and faiths - India, has seen an evolution of every kind since time immemorial. We, as a nation, a 'human setup', have experienced and seen reality stranger than fiction. Places have 'past'; we have ‘history'. Innumerable invasions, attacks on every possible element of our culture have been recorded. What makes a nation of millions still stand together, head held high with faith and pride?
Iranian leader Baháʼu'lláh says, So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth. India has bravely displayed this power time and again. United, we have always stood. We, as a system of the human population, we as Indians, are the 'living example' of the words 'unity is strength'. The way we come together to be there for each other, in times of crisis, is commendable.
Charles Darwin says, It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change. Our culture has taught us to respect and value the basics along with changing with time, adopt the changes, and bring out the best. If we did not keep up with the world's pace, imagine how a nation of such a density of population and diverse living would end up uniting every time something happens in the world?
The present times are difficult for the entire human race. We all are in this together. It is a constant endeavour of so many forces from outside, and from within the country, to divide us. Yet, diversity binds us together so beautifully that we garner world admiration. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore beautifully defined this idea. If God had so wished, he would have made all Indians speak with one language, the unity of India has been and shall always be a unity in diversity.
Dwelling in diversity and celebrating unity in that, India and Indians do not forget the fundamental virtues that our culture has taught us. When we say, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we mean it in thought, speech, and action. For us, the earth (world) is one big family. When we call the world our family, it implies that we fulfil all our duties and responsibilities towards that family. Every concept in our culture defines how unity firmly supports our foundation.
Swami Vivekananda, the mortal spiritual being gave the world a direction of conscience and represented the real idea of being an Indian, a Bharat Putra, a Hindustani. He believes, 'The national ideals of India are RENUNCIATION AND SERVICE. Intensify her in these channels, and the rest will take care of itself'. We stand true to this every time the world needs us.
Taking with us the best of our culture, let us commit to staying true to our nation, in the times of crisis and otherwise, and let unity be our most enormous power, come what may.
